Long-term results of Sauvé–Kapandji procedure

The Sauvé–Kapandji procedure is an established treatment option for distal radioulnar joint dysfunction. We retrospectively analysed 36 patients following between 1997 and 2013. Fifteen were available a follow-up after mean of 13 years (range 6 to 23). Six needed revision surgery because ulnar stump instability. Radiographs sonography performed quantify the instability proximal stump. These showed convergence 8 mm without weight 2 while lifting 1 kg. Sonographically, dislocated by volar side applying pressure palm, compared with 4 on contralateral side. Sonographically measured positive strong correlation Disabilities Arm, Shoulder Hand questionnaire Patient-Reported Wrist Evaluations negative grip strength supination torque. Because high incidence due stump, we restrict use only very selected cases. Level evidence: IV
